WAIT… YOUR MEETING CAN NOW ORGANISE ITS OWN FOLLOW-UPS?!

Q: Can Google Meet turn meeting discussions into follow-up emails and tasks?
A: For eligible Google Workspace meetings, post-meeting routines can help draft follow-up Gmail messages or move action items into Google Tasks through Workspace Studio.
THE MEETING AFTER THE MEETING
Everybody agreed the next steps. Brilliant. But who wrote them down, who owns them, and when does anything happen? I’ve spent enough time around projects to know that action lists are where meetings prove their worth.
WHAT GOOGLE INTRODUCED
Google’s October 2026 announcement described a Meet post-meeting screen offering supported routines such as drafting a follow-up email or transferring action items into Tasks. These are actions you can choose, not proof that every meeting automatically manages itself.
HOW TO USE IT
Use an eligible paid Google Workspace account, schedule the Meet in Calendar, enable the required Gemini note-taking and smart features, then look for Routines for this meeting after the call. Select an available routine, review generated notes and tasks and check who has actually agreed to what.
IMPORTANT RESTRICTIONS
Availability depends on Workspace edition, organisation settings and gradual rollout. Certain routines have restrictions; for example the official instructions have additional host, guest and recurring-meeting conditions for follow-up email drafts.
WHAT ABOUT PRIVATE MEETINGS?
Meeting content can be sensitive. Check organisational policy and participants’ expectations before using AI capture or summaries. Never send an unreviewed action email that confidently assigns someone a task they never agreed to.
MY TAKEAWAY
The interesting shift is from making minutes to making a sensible next step. A meeting is not productive because everyone showed up; it is productive when the agreed work happens.
AVAILABILITY, COST & LIMITATIONS
Eligible paid Workspace Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise Standard/Plus and some education add-ons; feature rolled out from October 2026.
